Florida Anoles

Anoles are those common lizards we see everywhere in Floridian nature. There are several varieties of anoles found in Florida nature but the most common is the green anole. Green anoles are similar to chameleons but they are unable to change colors as easily as their cousins. An easy way to identify an anole is by the bright flaming skin he expands on his throat when alarmed. Anoles can live between four and eight years and if you catch one it can be calmed and petted.

Florida Armadillos

Armadillos are small placental mammals, known for having a leathery armor shell. The word armadillo is Spanish for "little armored one". In the United States, the sole resident armadillo is the Nine-banded Armadillo, which is most common in the central southernmost states. Armadillos have been consistently expanding their range over the last century due to a lack of natural predators. Armadillos feed primarily on insects and their larvae. They also eat earthworms, scorpions , spiders , snails, and small vertebrates and their eggs. Reports of armadillo damage to birds' nests on the ground are rare. People cannot help but appreciate the fact that armadillos consume large amounts of armyworms, cockroaches, ants , wasps, flies, beetles , and grasshoppers. Florida Marine Mammals: Seals

Seals live in the oceans of both hemispheres and are mostly confined to polar, sub-polar, and temperate climates, with the exception of the more tropical monk seals. True seals inhabit all oceans, except the Indian Ocean. Some species live in inland lakes in Siberia, Russia, and Finland. Seals forage, search for food, at sea, but haul out (get out of the water) to land to breed, molt, or shed fur, and rest. Seals eat mostly fish, but also feed on krill, squid, octopuses, and other seals. True seals congregate on land or ice to breed and molt. The males and females of some species migrate, travel, separately from breeding to foraging areas, some traveling as far south as Florida. Others species do not migrate. Adult hooded seals have black heads and silver-gray coats with dark blotches of varying sizes and shapes across their bodies.
